Quorn Cup 2019

Well … the sun wasn’t quite shining and there was a chill in the air, but at least the rain stayed away on Saturday 23rd March for us to host the Quorn Cup this year.

It was a great day with a super atmosphere – even the adults managed to behave themselves which is always a bonus.

Ten pairs took to the courts to play for the chance to win tickets to watch an LTA grass court event this summer in locations such as Manchester, Nottingham or Birmingham. There were two round robin groups, with each adult/mini junior pair playing four 10-point tie break matches on mini red courts with mini nets. Games were played in good humour by all with some old hands leading the way to help those newbies settle into their games.

At the end of the round robin each pair then played a further match. The fifth ranked in each playing off to award 9th and 10th places, the fourth ranked in each to award 7th and 8th places and so on … until the top of each group got to play off in THE FINAL!!!

It was Fireball (aka Evie and Richard Yates) taking on Fryers Flyers (aka Thomas and Sarah Fryer) in the final. A great game was played with Fireball taking the match 10-7.

Thanks to all who supported this annual event and to John Whitehall for running it for us.
